I run into customers all the time that have equipment for 25 years or longer. They start to develop a sense that it will last forever. They start to have short term memory loss when our emergency tech came out in the middle of the night to restore your heat. They seemed to forget at that time we recommended a replacement. Do not become equipment blind and surprised when old faithful breaks down and repair costs become more expensive. This happens through mere economics. The majority of homes we service have newer equipment, and we stock our trucks accordingly. In the past, as an example, I would stock my truck with belts for older furnace repairs. These belts were used to connect the blower wheel to the motor. Fast forward to today; modern furnaces do not use belts, they all have direct drive motors that directly attach to the blower wheel. So, the question is, “How many different belts should I stock my service truck with?” The correct answer is none. This example is one of many why repair costs on older furnaces are so high, and in this example, the repair will take two visits to fix. Even though your furnace is now working, still ask for a quote. By doing so you will know the cost of replacement. Knowing what to expect, price wise, is valuable information to have on-hand if and when that unfortunate breakdown does occur. It will aid in your decision making, do I want to revive the patient (furnace) or is this the final straw? We will credit you up to 50% of your repair cost to get your new furnace installed. Do not psych yourself out and feel you have to keep that old beast alive when you can feel confident with the installation of a new furnace.
