The weather may still be beautiful here in Chicagoland, but we all know that it’s just a matter of time before the temperatures drop and the AC takes a step back to your furnace. You want to make sure it’s ready for showtime when the need arises!

As a homeowner, it’s important to ask – is your furnace prepared to keep you warm when fall temps hit? Before you know it, we’ll be feeling that Chicago chill, so while it’s nice to enjoy the final good days of summer, let’s prep for autumn now!

Here are some things you can do this fall to get your heating system in order for the colder months and enjoy a warm and comfortable winter.

Get your HVAC system checked out by a trained heating technician.

This is the single most important thing you can do to get your heating system ready for winter. There are several things that could be problematic about your furnace and a thorough inspection will help you get in front of those issues before they become a big headache down the road. Getting an inspection will also save you money and prevent an emergency when your furnace dies on a really cold night! Plus when Serviced by American Weathermakers we also guarantee no breakdown in this winter season. Call us today for more information.

Replace your air filters & keep them clear!

This is the perfect time to switch out your air filters. Per to the U.S. Department of Energy, replacing air filters is the most important maintenance task to ensure the efficiency of your heating and cooling unit. A clogged filter will compromise the integrity of your entire system – so it’s critical that you keep your filter clean and clear.

These filters aren’t one size fits all! You can find most replacement filters at your local hardware store, but you will need to know the size and type of your current filter before making a purchase. If the replacement filter does not fit properly, it could damage your system. If you have any questions about your filter, ask one of our American Weathermakers techs – they can explain how to care for your filters before the winter season starts.

What else can I do myself?

Homeowners at the start of the season should also do this check list:

  • Call to Schedule a Tune-Up ((847) 503-9497)
  • Replace air filter
  • Replace batteries in the thermostat
  • Make sure the summer clutter is not blocking the furnace
  • Run the heat
  • Listen for weird noises
  • Let your tech know of any concerns you have or questions of operation
  • Sleep tight that all is working well.

To get your furnace ready for winter, call us at (847) 503-9497! We’ll help you get everything you need in order for you to enjoy the first few days of cool temps and prevent any unexpected malfunctions! Contact us here to get a tune up or sign up for our Comfort Club, which includes an inspection at the beginning of the fall season!
